Donning my reviewer's cap
Aug. 14th, 2008 10:54 pmJust got home from watching "Mummy 3: The tomb of the Dragon Emperor" and well, after hearing dreadful reviews about the flick I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
Yes, the movie was weak, the story, the dialogue, heck the actual premise was weaker then Mel Gibson's attempt to apologise to the Jews. However, it was fun, it had plenty of special effects (I liked the yetis) and I got to ogle Brendan Fraser and heck, even Luke Ford was far better the Shia Mutt Indiana.
It was forgettable, but it made me switch off my brain and just rest for a while whilst letting my eyes take in the explosions and the pretty terracotta soldiers. My recommendation? If you like to switch off and prepare to be amused at the CGI and silliness, see it. It is guaranteed not to make your head hurt.
Would not recommend to anyone who has a good knowledge of Chinese mythology, culture and history, but since when Hollywood cared about accuracy even in the more serious films? Well, unless the director persuaded the sponsors that is.
P.S. Since when did Maria Bello look like an older Kate Beckinsale? The friend I saw this with has a Beckinsale fetish. Seriously, are they even remotely similar, well, aside from being dark-haired female actresses that is?
