This year may have been the best or the worst one yet for many of us, or even somewhere in between, tougher or nicer then other years. The best thing is the fact that a new year is coming, which may be better or worse, but it will be a new year. I wish I could offer some wise words, or even an inspiring quote by someone smarter or better then I am. I just know that change, even as minuscule as writing 2009 as the year on the date of your email memo brings something new. And new is generally good even if it is just for a few days or even for a few minutes.

So I wish all of you a wonderful New Year celebration and a much better year then this one.  Again, this is missing some poignant quote, but nothing really stands out of the Google search for quotes about the meaning of life, except maybe this:

"It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living.”  - Terry Pratchett.

Overheard today: "Youth is the vice that passes quickly."

From a Science-themed group on Facebook conviniently named "Am I the only one to understand how evolution works?"

"Darwin didn't invent evolution, it has been happening for millions of years. Blaming Darwin for eugenics is like blaming Newton for guillotines and gallows."

Any woman, who has ever struggled with self-esteem issues knows the sometime irritation that comes from glancing at the perfectly composed beautiful presenters on TV or those women, whose faces are declared by the fashion designers to be the epitome of beauty, grace the popular magazines.

No matter how much rationally we know, that they spend a great deal of time in front of the make-up artists and that the photographs are digitally manipulated, the irrational thought of how ugly one is in a time of stress(or in front of the scale) rears its whiny annoying self.

I accidently stumbled on a quote today by Albert Camus, a french novellist: " Style, like the sheer silk underwear, sometimes hides eczema."
Sometime, it is good to be reassured of that.

It is often stated that of all the theories proposed in this century, the silliest is quantum theory. In fact, some say that the only thing that quantum theory has going for it is that it is unquestionably correct.

Physicist and Nobel prizewinner Stephen Weinberg describes religion as an insult to human dignity. 'Without it,' he says, 'you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.

Every procedure for getting a cat to take a pill works fine -- once.

I do believe that the sudoku craze has reached it's peak here.
Gotta love the up-and-coming trends. They should setup their own order like the guys in the "Lords and Ladies" by Terry Pratchett. (Yes, I could not resist)
"

The Monks of Cool, whose tiny and exclusive monastery is hidden in a really

cool and laid-back valley in the lower Ramtops, have a passing-out test for a

novice. He is taken into a room full of all types of clothing and asked: Yo,

my son, which of these is the most stylish thing to wear? And the correct

answer is: Hey, whatever I select.

(Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies)"

Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of

evil...prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed

to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon...
